Is Financial Aid Available for the OD/MBA Program?
Yes aid is available: A student in the combined program would be receiving Financial Aid at the SUNY College of Optometry for the maximum amount for tuition and living expenses and at Baruch College for the tuition of the MBA program only. The money they would get at SUNY would be for SUNY Tuition and the living expenses for the year (for Both programs). The loans they would get from Baruch would be for tuition only for the MBA program. Please note that since Health Profession schools have much higher loan limits then other colleges you will be taking out a non government guaranteed alternative loan at Baruch College. This means that you will have to undergo a credit check at Baruch college to confirm your eligibility for an alternative loan. If an alternative loan is denied you will be responsible for Baruch's tuition expenses and will not be eligible for any other financial aid from Baruch. This will not impact your financial aid at SUNY for the OD program.
How Do I apply?
Fill out a FAFSA form and list both colleges on the form. The form must be filled out by April 15 for the fall term you will be attending. You will then fill out other SUNY forms and Baruch will send you an alternative loan application.
What is an Alternative Loan?
An alternative loan is just the name of the group of loans that a person takes out after they have maxed out their eligibility for Federal Loans. There are many options and Baruch College will offer whichever loan has the best rates at the time a student applies. A student will have their credit checked by the lender to determine if they have sufficient credit. If credit is not approved the student can apply with a co-borrower.
What if I am not approved for an Alternative Loan?
If you are not approved for an alternative loan there is no other financial aid you can receive to pay the Baruch tuition. You will then be responsible to pay this amount out of pocket.
