BETA SIGMA KAPPA (BSK) is an International Optometric Honor Society with chapters in 18 of the 19 accredited Schools and Colleges of Optometry in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. BSK is a fellowship of members who work jointly to promote academic and scientific excellence as well as high moral standards in the profession of Optometry. Our mission is to stimulate scientific attainment, academic excellence and the ethical practice of optometry; and to promote and provide financial support for worthy research projects relating to vision care and the eyes.
Membership Eligibility:
Any student of Optometry who has attained a GPA of 3.5 or better after the conclusion of the first year in the professional program, or a 3.4 cumulative GPA for the first two years of the program, or cumulative GPA’s of 3.3 for the first three years, or 3.2 (or its equivalent) for the four years (calculated after the end of the second quarter) is eligible for membership.
Awards:
- Certificate of membership to all members
- Certificate of achievement is presented to those who have maintained academic excellence and membership in BSK for all four years
- Shoulder cords to wear and keep upon graduation
- Silver Medal to the student chapter member with the highest academic record
- BSK lapel pins are available to all members for $6 each
Dues:
Yearly dues are $5. There is a one time application fee of $20 for new members.
