Dr. Philpott joined SUNY College of Optometry in June of 2010 as Vice President for Student Affairs. In this position, Dr. Philpott serves as Chief Student Affairs Officer of the College, responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of all student affairs programs and services. His areas of responsibility include strategic planning, admissions, recruitment, the CSTEP program for under-represented minority students, registration & records, financial aid, student life, academic and personal counseling, housing assistance, and career development.
Dr. Philpott’s current interests include investigating the factors that attract and deter students from achieving optimal levels of involvement in organized environments and the career development needs of professional optometry students, residents, and alumni.
Dr. Philpott holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Bowling Green State University (Ohio); a Master’s degree in English from Idaho State University; and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and English from Dickinson College (Pennsylvania).
Prior to joining SUNY College of Optometry, Dr. Philpott served as Dean of Students at both Saint Xavier University (Chicago) and at Warren College, at the University of California, San Diego and as Vice President for Student Affairs at Hawaii Pacific University (Honolulu).
