Dr. Soden initially joined the college in 1980 after completing a residency program in Rehabilitative Optometry at the Northport VA Medical Center. In addition to working at SUNY, Dr. Soden continued at the Northport VA as the Associate Chief of Optometry. He was also a partner in a private practice on Long Island. His special interests include primary care, low vision rehabilitation, visual therapy and head trauma rehabilitation. In 2005, he retired from the VA and returned to SUNY initially as the Associate Director of Managed Care and the Vice President for Clinical Affairs. He is a past president of the New York State Optometric Association and remains as their Third Party Consultant. Dr. Soden lectures in continuing education programs and is a recognized as for his knowledge in "billing and coding."
