Academics
SUNY Optometry offers several academic degree programs at the professional (OD) and graduate levels (PhD, MS). MPH and MBA programs are under development.
All of our academic programs are integrative and emphasize critical thinking and problem solving. To achieve this we incorporate a variety of educational techniques including lecture, laboratory, seminar, tutorial, clinical, and laboratory research.
All coursework in the professional degree program is overseen by two academic departments: The Department of Biological and Vision Sciences, and The Department of Clinical Education. Clinical training is based in the College’s clinic – The University Eye Center (UEC) and a variety of externship sites around the country. The PhD and MS programs are overseen by the Graduate Center for Vision Science (GCVR).
Beyond our degree programs, SUNY Optometry offers an extensive residency program that includes the University Eye Center and multiple other sites around the metropolitan area and the Northeast. Our Office of Continuing Professional Education sponsors classes, workshops and events to optometrists to provide certified continuing education on current topics and the latest advancements and methods in vision care.
Our office of International Programs is dedicated to fostering cultural and intellectual exchange, and connects our students, researchers and faculty members with institutions and opportunities around the world.
