Program Description
The major emphasis of this program will be fitting and follow-up care of patients in the SUNY specialty contact lens clinic.  The externs will work with the contact lens faculty in order to provide a diversified experience in the care and management of both rigid and soft contact lenses.  In addition, efforts will be made to have the externs work with specialty contact lens cases such as bitorics, piggyback, aspheric lenses, keratoconic fits, prosthetics, post refractive surgery, post penetrating keratoplasty, corneal refractive therapy, and pediatric aphakia patients.

Non-clinical responsibilities might include library research and administrative work.  The research may be motivated by an actual clinical case or by participation in a research project with a faculty member and present a case report, original research, or literature review to faculty and fellow students at a seminar.  Administrative work might include writing reports and processing contact lens orders.
