Eye Clinic Services
This is a full scope optometric program with heavy emphasis on the diagnostic assessment and therapeutic management of ocular disease. The population includes, but is not restricted to a large number of glaucoma & diabetic patients. The clinical faculty have geared the program toward highly motivated students, providing each student with the supervision necessary to achieve his/her potential. Student externs provide direct, complete eye care to our patients including applanation tonometry, biomicroscopy, gonioscopy, binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy, anterior segment & fundus photography, Humphrey visual fields, ocular ultrasound, optical coherence tomography & fluorescein angiography. Contact lens services are provided when medically indicated. Student externs also have the opportunity to take part in comprehensive eye care at one of our satellite clinics, on-ward examinations & other clinics within the hospital, i.e., neurology. Lectures & case discussions are performed weekly in the clinic. Student externs are responsible for one short presentation near the end of their rotation.
