The Library has VCRs and slide projectors with viewing screens available for use in the Gladys Kohn Audiovisual Suite. Tape recorders and headphones can be borrowed at the Circulation Desk for use in the Library.
Computer Labs
The computer labs located in Rooms 402 and 404 are available for use by members of the College Community during regular Library hours except when they have been reserved for academic or training purposes.
Faculty and staff can reserve the computer labs for academic purposes by contacting Ms. Sheila Crawford, Library Assistant, at ext. 5694.
All computers in the computer labs provide access to the full range of Microsoft Office applications as well as email.
Limited technical assistance is available from Library staff members between 8AM and 6PM. Problems that cannot be resolved by Library staff must be referred to the Information Technology Help Desk at ext. 5717.
Other computer facilities within the Library
There are several iMac's near the current periodicals section that feature Internet browsing and can be used without a SUNY login account. There is also a dedicated station for HIPAA training.
The Library has three transfer stations located outside the Gladys Kohn Audiovisual Suite where patrons can move files between disks (including zip disks) and their space on the shared network drive.
There are also terminals on the 42nd Street side of the Library that are dedicated to PubMed searching.
The Library has two scanners, two computers with CD-ROM drives and DVD players, and two stand-alone printers available in the Multimedia Room (Room 414). Preference is given to individuals who need to use the scanner and/or the stand-alone printer.
Printing
Printing is activated via the two "GoPrint" kiosks to the left of the Circulation Desk. Two stand-alone printers are available in the Multimedia Room (Room 414) for customized print jobs such as resumes. Printing from Library computers should be limited as much as possible to academic and clinical needs, and patrons should be mindful of the costs and inconvenience caused by printing lengthy or multiple documents.
Copy Machines
Two copy machines machines are available in the Library. Copies are 10 cents per copy. One machine takes coins; the other requires the use of a copy card. Copy cards can be purchased at the automatic teller located at the Circulation Desk. Graduate students must provide an authorization form from the Office of Graduate Programs in order to receive pre-loaded copy cards.
Microform reader/printer
The Library has a microform reader/printer located in the Multimedia Room (Room 414). For assistance in using this machine, please contact a Library staff member.
Study and Conference Rooms
Four group study rooms are available for student use on a first-come, first-served basis. They may not be reserved or held, and the Library is not responsible for items left in these rooms.
Group study rooms are governed by the same rules that apply to the rest of the Library. This includes the prohibition against food and beverages.
Quiet Study Area (3M)
3M (the mezzanine directly beneath the Library) is available for quiet study only. There are no computers in this area.
All Library rules and regulations apply to this area. Food and drink are not allowed. Reserve books may be taken to 3M, but must be checked in and out as usual.
Lost and Found
The Library is not responsible for personal belongings. However, if you lose an item in the Library and would like to know if it has been turned in, please call the Circulation Desk at ext. 5690. Valuable items are turned over to the Security Desk on the first floor (42nd Street side) at ext. 5566.
Telephones
A pay telephone is located just outside the Library entrance in the vestibule. A wall phone for in-house calls is located to the left of the Circulation Desk. Telephones in staff offices are not for public use.
The Library staff cannot page patrons; therefore patrons cannot receive telephone calls in the Library.
Tip Sheets
The Library has a series of one-page, user-friendly instructions to assist patrons in the use of the Library's web site and other information resources. These are available on a rack to the right of the Circulation Desk. Many of these can also be downloaded from the Library web site. Should you have any questions on how to use any of the Library's electronic resources, please contact a member of the Library staff.
Visitors
Visitors are welcome to use the Kohn Library collection and PubMed computer stations. Visitors do not have borrowing privileges and may not access the eletronic journals. Specific articles may be downloaded by the Library Director/Reference Librarian as time allows. All resources consulted must be used on site.
