SUNY Opens New Vision Care Referral Service

The SUNY College of Optometry recently announced the opening of a new comprehensive referral service for optometrists and ophthalmologists in the metropolitan New York area.

The University Optometric Center, (UOC) the College's patient care facility, is one of the country's largest outpatient vision care clinics, serving men, women and children from around the world. Because it is a teaching facility too, the UOC has the latest and most  comprehensive diagnostic and treatment technologies. The UOC faculty consists of eye care specialists who treat many ocular conditions that most eye care providers never see.

" If there is a new and better way to treat ocular disease or vision problems, chances are we're already doing it, " said Dr. Harriette Canellos, Director of the Referral Service.

The services range from Laser Refractive Surgery and Ocular Disease and Special Testing , Vision Therapy Pediatrics, Low Vision to Specialty Contact Lenses.  Among the more unique units within the UOC is the Head Trauma Unit providing comprehensive visual evaluations and visual services to individuals with acquired head trauma and strokes.
