SUNY Optometry receives ASCO Optometric Education Diversity Mini-Grant
New York, NY- The Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry(ASCO) has awarded SUNY College of Optometry a $3,500 mini-grant through the organization’s 2011 Optometric Education Diversity Mini-Grant Program. The mini-grant will fund SUNY Optometry’sIncreasing Diversity by Engaging All (IDEA) project, aimed at enrolling traditionally under-represented minority students into the College’s OD program by using social media to engage students in dialogue, and to portray the profession of optometry as an exciting and viable career path. The IDEA project will also provide students with resources and tips in academic preparation, as well as life management skills necessary to become competitive applicants and accepted into an optometry program. The mini-grant is generously supported by Luxottica Retail and The Vision Care Institute, LLC.
