About the University Eye Center

Founded in 1971, the University Eye Center is the patient-care facility of the State University of New York College of Optometry. We are one of the largest eye-and-vision care clinics in the country examining approximately 70,000 patients annually.  We utilize leading-edge technology to treat an extraordinary range of eye and vision-related issues. Because we are a teaching facility affiliated with a major university, we are able to provide services that go well beyond comprehensive eye exams, eyeglasses and contact lenses. Optometrists and other practitioners frequently refer patients to us when they have patients in need of advanced care or testing or other specialty services.

Some of our services include:

Adult and Pediatric Primary Care

Exams, glasses and contact lenses, including specialty contacts.

Advanced Care

Specialized care for patients with cataracts, glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration and other ocular diseases.

Rehabilitation

Individualized care for patients with visual disorders, low vision and head trauma.

Diabetic Eye Care

Diagnosis and treatment to minimize loss of vision due to diabetic eye disease.

Eyewear

A large selection of frames, designer eyewear and specialty lenses.

Social Services

Support groups and other services designed to help patients live with vision impairment or traumatic brain injury.

At the UEC, we’re committed to extending high-quality vision care to a broad range of communities. We are proud to partner with numerous psychiatric centers, hospitals and ambulatory care centers affiliated with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation. Our extensive Vision Screening Program reaches out to children in schools and community organizations throughout New York City. Through our Homebound program, faculty and student interns provide comprehensive vision care to people with limited mobility across New York City. Beyond New York, UEC faculty and students regularly organize community-service trips to provide vision care to disadvantaged communities around the world.
