Founded in 1971, the University Eye Center is the patient care facility of the State University of New York College of Optometry. We are one of the largest vision care clinics in the country with approximately 70,000 patient visits annually.

About UEC

The UEC is comprises of internationally recognized optometrists, ophthalmologists, ophthalmic dispensers and other professionals. We utilize leading-edge technology to treat an extraordinary range of eye and vision-related issues. Because we are a teaching facility affiliated with a major university, we are able to provide services that go well beyond comprehensive eye exams, eyeglasses and contact lenses. Optometrists and other practitioners frequently refer patients to us when they have patients in need of advanced care or testing or other specialty services.

Some of our services include:

Adult and Pediatric Primary Care
  Exams, glasses and contact lenses, including specialty contacts.

Advanced Care
  Specialized care for patients with cataracts, glaucoma, diabetes, macular  
  degeneration and other ocular diseases.

Rehabilitation
  Individualized care for patients with visual disorders, low vision and head  
  trauma.

Diabetic Eye Care
  Diagnosis and treatment to minimize loss of vision due to diabetic eye
  disease.

Eyewear
  A large selection of frames, designer eyewear and specialty lenses.

Social Services
  Support groups and other services designed to help patients live with vision  
  impairment or traumatic brain injury.


At the UEC we are committed to extending care throughout our broad community. We proudly partner with numerous institutions, such as the Bowery Mission and others throughout New York City and beyond, to provide the highest quality of care to as many people as possible. In addition, our extensive vision screening and educational programs reach thousands of individuals throughout in our community each year. And our Homebound program provides provides hundreds of people with mobility issues with quality care in their homes.
