In 1956, a small group of optometrists and philanthropists from around New York City and the surrounding region came together to form the Optometric Center of New York (OCNY), a nonprofit health and education resource that established an eye and vision care clinic that, in 1971, became the clinical component of the newly established State University of New York College of Optometry. The clinic was then known as the University Optometric Center.
In 2009, the University Optometric Center was renamed the University Eye Center. The name change represents the UEC’s commitment to making vision care more accessible and increasing public awareness of the clinic and the work that we do.
