Bio

Thomas A. Wong, OD is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Clinical Education at SUNY Optometry serving both as the Director of Clinical Externships and Director of New Technologies. He is the former Chief of Adult & Pediatric Primary Eye Care at the University Eye Center. He is a graduate of Georgetown University (GU) and the SUNY College of Optometry. Prior to becoming a faculty member at SUNY Optometry he served as the Optometry-Chief at Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States (DC-Maryland-Virginia) . Dr. Wong is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, and has served on numerous American Optometric Association (AOA) committees. He has received numerous awards from the AOA, New York State Optometric Association (NYSOA), Maryland Optometric Association, SUNY Col-lege of Optometry, and Georgetown University. He is a past President of both the Maryland Opto-metric Association, and the Optometric Society of D.C. He has spoken nationally on the topics of Medical Ethics, Technology & Innovations in Eye Care, Ocular Disease, Mobile Health Apps, and Contact Lenses. Dr. Wong serves as a Senator on the GU Board of Governors where he serves on their Diversity Equity & Inclusion committee, and Georgetown University’s Boards for both Athletics and Men’s Basketball. He is currently the chair of the ASCO Education Technology SIG and a member of both the ASCO Ethics & Externship Directors SIGs. He a member of the AOA's Strategic Communications committee, and formerly a representative to the American Medical Association’s Physician’s Consortium for Performance Im-provement (PCPI) and advisory panel for eye care measures (both have committees were terminated in 2021). Dr. Wong is an active volunteer helping to provide eye examinations for the Georgetown Scholar-ship Program, Washington Jesuit Academy, Cristo Rey High Schools, Harlem United, and Chicago Scholars.
