Dr. Tamara Petrosyan graduated with honors from SUNY College of Optometry in 2009 and went on to do a residency in vision rehabilitation, head trauma, low vision, and ocular disease at the Northport VA Medical Center. In 2011, she joined the faculty of SUNY Optometry in the Primary Care, Pediatrics, and Vision Rehabilitation departments and was promoted to an associate clinical professor in 2017. She also works at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, East New York (where she supervises interns and residents in primary care and ocular disease).
Dr. Petrosyan lectures nationally and internationally and has published articles and book chapters on various topics. In Armenia, Dr. Petrosyan helped organize, train doctors, and implement free pediatric comprehensive vision evaluations for over 22,000 children through the Armenian Eyecare Project. She has developed over a dozen vision therapy and rehabilitation workbooks published through Bernell Corporation to be used for vision therapy, head trauma, and perceptual therapy. Dr. Petrosyan is a partner and the head of vision therapy for Anteo Health, a vision therapy platform. She is the InfantSEE liaison for New Jersey, on the board of directors for the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians as well as the head of their clinical care committees for pediatrics and for vision therapy.
Dr. Petrosyan has received various awards including the Young Optometrist of the Year from the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians (NJSOP), the Young Optometrist of the Year from the American Optometric Association, and the Optometrist of the Year from NJSOP.
