May 30, 2018

SUNY Optometry hosted 2018 Capstone for its graduating ODs on Tuesday, May 22. The annual event provides newly minted doctors with current information on their rapidly changing profession and starts them on the path toward lifelong learning.

Dr. Mark Wright, a nationally recognized contributor on optometric practice, delivered the keynote address, “Practicing in a World of Disruptive Technologies.” The event continued with updates on pharmaceuticals led by Dr. Diane Adamczyk, licensing and board certification by Dr. Daniella Rutner and Dr. Jennifer Gould and continuing professional education by Dr. Richard Madonna.

This year’s Capstone concluded with two panel discussions. The first panel focused on what employers want and featured Ian Maltzman of Union Square Eye Care, Dr. Denise Whittam of Cohen’s Fashion Optical and Dr. Greg DiSanto, who is in private practice. The second panel, which included Dr. Dan Epshtein, Dr. Elsa Sheerer and Dr. Kathleen Maloney, addressed the new graduate experience.

Representatives from the American Optometric Association, New York State Optometric Association, American Academy of Optometry and the SUNY Optometry Alumni Association also offered greetings to the Class of 2018.
