5th Annual Career Symposium

Want to learn more about making the transition from optometry school to practice? Want to get the inside scoop on some of the latest health care trends? Want to find out what it’s like to open an optometry practice cold or learn how you might be able to find your career niche? Want advice about how to manage your personal finances and debt? Get all this and more at SUNY Optometry’s 5th Annual Career Symposium, Intentional Career Design: The Adaptive Optometrist on Sunday, April 3.

SUNY Optometry alumnus, Dr. Joseph Rappon, a key player in the unique ‘smart lens’ collaboration between Alcon and Google, will give the keynote address. Personal finance expert and author, Ms. Helaine Olen, will offer her highly regarded advice about debt management and finances. And a range of experts from optometry, health care and beyond will offer their experience and advice for students, residents and alumni of the SUNY College of Optometry.

“The world is constantly changing, and very quickly. Health care—and therefore optometry—is changing along with it,” said Dr. Quy Nguyen, director of the Career Development Center. “The way that optometrists practice, including the setting, the technology and with whom, are constantly in a state of flux. Our goal for this year’s symposium is to get our students, residents and alumni to focus on being mindful and intentional when thinking about their careers as they reflect on these changes.”

Dr. Nguyen explains that the symposium is designed to provide resources that will help attendees “become the most adaptive and well-rounded personally, professionally and financially.”
