COMMUNITY AND PEOPLE Amber E. Hopkins Tingle The College’s director of communications completed the New York State Leadership Institute through the Governor’s Office of Employee Relations and Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy. The program, which began in May and concluded in December, provides tools and strategies for participants to manage complex challenges in New York State government. Focrun Nahar Ms. Nahar was promoted to institutional research and academic program coordinator. She works with the dean for academic affairs and faculty to implement curriculum updates and program developments, and she has assumed additional data collection and analysis duties for institutional research and planning. She also spearheaded the College’s ExamSoft and DigitalMeasures launches. Dr. Daniella Rutner The chief of the University Eye Center’s vision rehabilitation service was named Optometrist of the Year during the New York State Optometric Association’s 2018 award ceremony on March 17 for her “exemplary service and community involvement to promote the profession of optometry and the visual welfare of the public.” Her work focuses on pediatrics and vision therapy. Dr. Christy Sell ’01, ’02 Dr. Christy Sell, a graduate of the OD/MS program, recently returned to the College for her third stint as an assistant clinical professor after a six-year hiatus. Officer Akeema Wilson The university police officer received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Classified Service. He is an ambassador for his department and his demeanor reflects diplomacy to effectively deescalate situations. Officer Wilson also received the SUNY Police Professional Service Award in November 2016. Ayana Wint Ms. Wint joined the College as an assistant to the president on May 21. The New York City-native has several years of experience working in higher education and previously served as an administrative assistant at New York University and The City University of New York. She graduated from Delaware State University with a BA in English literature. Kimberly Price is the first face patients see when they visit the University Eye Center 2018 ANNUAL REPORT 29
