Dr. Kenneth J. Ciuffreda received the Skeffington-Alexander International Award from the Optometric Extension Program Foundation for his “ongoing commitment to the advancement of behavioral optometry internationally.“
Dr. Tamara Petrosyan, who works with the Armenian Eye Care Project on implementation of preschool and kindergarten comprehensive vision screenings in villages of Armenia, has received a grant to conduct community educational outreach and train ophthalmologists on how to perform the examination protocol. She is currently training the doctors over skype and will visit Armenia to conduct workshops on performing spot autorefractor, refraction, monocular distance visual acuity on a LEA chart, +2.00 hyperopia check, monocular near visual acuity on a LEA near chart, +/-2.00 flipper accommodative test, color vision, stereoscopy, part 3 of the DEM and red reflex/ophthalmoscopy. Glasses will be provided free of charge to children that need them both for distance, near or full-time wear. Dr. Petrosyan is also training a few providers on simple vision therapy techniques.
