Bio

Dr. Robert McPeek is a Professor in the Department of Biological and Vision Sciences at the State University of New York College of Optometry. His research seeks to elucidate the neural mechanisms underlying attention and visually-guided actions, including eye movements and reaching movements. To pursue this goal, his laboratory uses a range of techniques: performing psychophysical studies, investigating neural correlates, and testing causal relationships between activity and behavior. Areas of the brain of particular interest include the superior colliculus and frontal cortex. He has taught a number of courses, including Visual Function: Sensorimotor; Advanced Topics: Oculomotor; Visuomotor Selection and Decision-Making; and Visual Attention: Psychophysics, Physiology and Modeling.

In acknowledgement of his stellar research, Dr. McPeek is the recipient of the 2023 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research and Creative Activities. He also chairs the College's Graduate Program Committee which oversees the PhD and MS degree programs at the College. Dr. McPeek received his AB in Computational Neuroscience, AM in Psychology, and PhD in Psychology: Cognition, Brain, and Behavior from Harvard University.
