Deborah Amster

Bio

Dr. Amster is an alumna of the New England College of Optometry and completed a residency in pediatrics and binocular vision at Nova Southeastern University’s College of Optometry (NSU). She joined the NSU faculty after her residency and had been an active member of their community for 16 years. Since August of 2019, she has been an associate clinical professor and the sub-section chief of the pediatrics service of SUNY's University Eye Center. She has served as a preceptor of first-, second-, third- and fourth-year students and residents in clinic and laboratory settings and an instructor of record, instructor and guest lecturer for didactic and laboratory courses. She has been actively involved in research projects, including the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group and the Convergence Insufficiency Treatment Trial studies. Dr. Amster has authored and co-authored book chapters, co-authored scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, and presented numerous posters and lectures. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD). She serves on COVD’s international examination and certification board and has co-chaired national committees. She is also a member of the American Optometric Association and the New York State Optometric Association.
