Bio

Dr. Kartha completed her BS and MPhil Optometry from the Elite School of Optometry, Chennai, India. She worked as a low vision specialist at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India before leaving for Australia to do her PhD in Pediatric Vision Rehabilitation. Following her PhD, she moved to the United States. After a long hiatus, she returned to low vision research by doing a postdoctoral research fellowship from the Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland. Her current research focus is on developing a multi sensory rehabilitation for individuals with Ultra Low Vision for which she was awarded the K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Grant from the National Eye Institute.
