Bhawanjot Minhas

Bio

Dr. Bhawan Minhas is an Associate Clinical Professor at the State University of New York College of Optometry, where she works with students in the University Eye Center. Her academic and scholarly interests include primary eye care, ocular disease, urgent and emergent eye care, and clinical education. Her previous research has included serving as Principal Investigator on a Salus University-funded study evaluating methods of color vision assessment. She is also actively engaged in professional writing and continuing education, with particular interests in ocular disease and inflammation and the clinical management of urgent and emergent conditions.

Dr. Minhas brings more than a decade of experience in optometric education to SUNY. Prior to joining the faculty, she served at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in several faculty and academic leadership roles, including Director of On-Campus Residency Programs and Associate Dean of Accelerated Programs. Her contributions to clinical education were recognized with the Salus University Student Association Outstanding Clinical Preceptor of the Year Award in both 2014 and 2015, along with multiple nominations for the award over six additional years. In 2020, she received the Salus University Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

Dr. Minhas earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry and completed a residency in Primary Care and Ocular Disease at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Calgary.
