Bio

Steven Ritter, OD, FOVDRA, has been a member of the SUNY Community since his student days. Dr. Ritter was a founding member of the SUNY Optometry’s Saturday Vison Therapy Clinic. Recognizing the need for families to be able to access care in ways that fit family schedules, he has remained a stalwart Saturday provider. For more than 35 years, he has been there for the children and families of New York. Dr. Ritter is a proud SUNY Optometry alumnus, having graduated Summa cum Laude. He is a Fellow of the Optometric Vision Development and Rehabilitation Association. In his participation on the many legs of the Convergence Insufficiency Treatment Trials, Dr. Ritter has expanded our understanding of the best practices for remediating binocular dysfunction. As a proud SUNY graduate, it has been Dr. Ritter’s joy to see generations of students develop the knowledge base, skills, and confidence necessary to become top-tier care providers and leaders in the field of Optometry. He is the Director of the Vision Therapy Externship and the Micro-credential in Vision Therapy. When teaching, his tag phrase, “Let’s think about that another way,” encourages developing students to think critically and reflectively. Dr. Ritter provides care in the Vision Rehabilitation clinic. He enjoys seeing his patients improve the comfort and efficiency of binocular, oculomotor, accommodative, and visual processing skills while building longstanding relationships with families. He strongly believe that vision rehabilitative care allows children to reach their fullest academic potential and achieve their dreams.
