SUNY Optometry students, faculty, and staff won the team spirit award and raised more than $6,000 for the Foundation Fighting Blindness during the 11th annual New York VisionWalk on Saturday, April 8 at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens.
The 5K event supports research to find treatments and cures for retinal degenerative diseases, including macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, and Usher syndrome. VisionWalk has raised more $43 million to fund sight-saving research since 2006.
The College’s team’s top fundraisers were all first year OD students, including Rebecca Heaps, Abigail Cash, and Christian Crespo.
