SUNY College of Optometry Appoints Marina Su, OD, FAAO, as Vice President for Clinical Affairs and Executive Director of the University Eye Center

New York, NY — SUNY College of Optometry today announced the appointment of Marina Su, OD, FAAO, as Vice President for Clinical Affairs and Executive Director of the University Eye Center. Dr. Su brings more than 17 years of experience in clinical practice, education and health care leadership, along with a deep commitment to advancing access, equity and innovation in eye and vision care.

In her new role, Dr. Su will lead clinical operations at the University Eye Center, one of the nation’s largest academic optometric clinics, while strengthening the integration of patient care, clinical education and research in support of the College’s mission.

A residency-trained optometrist at SUNY College of Optometry, Dr. Su has longstanding ties to the institution. She comes to this role with extensive executive leadership experience, most recently as Chief Operating Officer, Director of Optometry and Residency Supervisor at Fromer Eye Centers, a multi-location, multi-specialty ophthalmology practice providing care to underserved communities across New York City and Westchester. In that role, she led organizational growth across five locations, executed multiple mergers and acquisitions, implemented new technology and artificial intelligence tools to improve clinical efficiency, and built sustainable systems to support long-term operational success. She also remained active in patient care, with clinical expertise spanning ocular disease, pediatrics, low vision, co-management and specialty contact lenses.

Her academic and professional career reflects a sustained commitment to mentoring future generations of optometrists and advancing health equity.

Dr. Su is a past president of the New York State Optometric Association, where she was elected as the organization’s first person of color to serve as president, as well as its seventh female and third youngest president since its founding in 1895. She also serves on the American Optometric Association’s Leadership Development Committee and is a consultant to the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education. Her leadership portfolio includes co-founding the NYSOA/SUNY Shadow-a-Doctor Program and establishing partnership programs to strengthen workforce diversity and the future pipeline of optometric educators and students.

She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and has been recognized with numerous professional honors, including Newsweek’s America’s Best Eye Doctors, the American Optometric Association President’s Award and the New York State Optometric Association Young OD of the Year Award. Dr. Su is currently completing executive leadership training at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and holds advanced certifications in health care leadership and artificial intelligence in clinical practice.

As Vice President for Clinical Affairs and Executive Director of the University Eye Center, Dr. Su will play a central role in shaping the future of SUNY Optometry’s clinical enterprise, advancing interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthening community impact, and ensuring that students and residents receive world-class clinical training alongside leading-edge research and patient care.
