DR. JULIE SONG RECEIVES VISIONARY IN EYE CARE RESIDENT RECOGNITION AWARD

Class of ’22, R ‘23 Alumna Named Best in Optometry at EyeCon 2023 Conference

NEW YORK, NY — The SUNY College of Optometry is thrilled to announce that Dr. Julie Song, ’22, R ‘23 was honored as the recipient of the inaugural Visionary in Eye Care Resident Recognition Award for the category of Best in Optometry during the EyeCon 2023 conference and awards ceremony, December 1-2, in Sanibel, Florida.

The 2023 Visionary in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards program is specifically tailored to acknowledge and celebrate the exemplary achievements and invaluable contributions of residents across three distinct categories. The program pays tribute to the rising stars in the field of ophthalmology, optometry and retina care, highlighting their exceptional contributions to patient care, research and clinical practice.

The Visionary in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards are designed to honor outstanding residents and rising stars who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation and commitment to advancing the field of eye care. These individuals have shown remarkable promise and potential in their contributions to patient care, research and commitment of residents.

“Resident Directors from around the country were contacted and asked for their Outstanding Resident Nominees,“ said Dr. Diane Adamczyk, Director of Residency Education at SUNY Optometry. “I nominated Dr. Song from the Resident Class of 2023 and we couldn’t be more proud that she was selected for this wonderful national recognition!”

Dr. Song was the President of the SUNY Optometry Class of 2022 and a recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. She went on to intern at SUNY Optometry and completed her residency this past spring. Dr. Song is now a Fellow of the American Academy of

Optometry (FAAO). A graduate of the University of Arizona Honors College with a BS in Physiology, Dr. Song is from Tempe, Arizona.

A distinguished panel of experts in the field of eye care completed the review of all nominations. Nominees were evaluated based on the merits of their contributions in the categories of leadership, education/research, and patient care.
