SUNY College of Optometry Faculty Member Appointed Visiting Professor at West China School of Medicine

NEW YORK, NY — SUNY College of Optometry is pleased to announce that Dr. Mark Rosenfield, an esteemed faculty member, has been appointed as a visiting professor at West China School of Medicine / West China Hospital, Sichuan University. This prestigious appointment, which commenced on September 5, 2022, will continue for a term of six years, ending on September 4, 2028.

Dr. Rosenfield’s appointment comes as a result of his exceptional contributions to the field of Optometry and Vision Sciences, as well as his dedication to advancing medical research and fostering academic exchanges across various disciplines. This is just another example of how SUNY Optometry has far reaching impact, beyond the New York area it serves. Currently, SUNY Optometry has affiliations with 8 international academic institutions in China, South Africa, Australia, France, Nigeria and New Zealand.

In addition to his new appointment, Dr. Rosenfield currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Ophthalmic & Physiological Optics (OPO), a renowned international journal in the field of vision science and optometry. This appointment was made by The College of Optometrists in 2020, further solidifying Dr. Rosenfield’s reputation as a leading figure in the industry.

With research interests spanning binocular vision, digital eye strain, and the measurement and etiology of refractive error, Dr. Rosenfield has made significant contributions to the field. He has authored numerous textbooks, over 16 book chapters, and has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles. His expertise and dedication to advancing knowledge in Optometry and Vision Sciences are widely recognized.

Dr. Rosenfield expressed his gratitude about the appointment, stating, “It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by this outstanding institution, and I am looking forward to further collaborations between our two universities.”
