Position Summary

The president is appointed by the SUNY Board of Trustees upon the recommendation of the College Council and the Chancellor, and serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the College. The president reports directly to the Chancellor of the University and has overall leadership of and responsibility for all aspects of campus academic and administrative operations including the quality of the education, research, and patient care, as well as both faculty and institutional development.

The ideal candidate will serve as the principal ambassador of the College in a manner that develops and strengthens relationships with the alumni, other optometric institutions, professional associations and government agencies for the benefit of the College. The president represents the campus’ interests within the SUNY system, with local and state elected officials, and surrounding communities, and within the national optometric communities. The president of the College of Optometry also serves as a member of the SUNY College of Optometry Foundation Board of Trustees.
